If a couple is having difficulty conceiving, numerous factors need to be considered. Here are some important aspects:
When should we see a doctor?
- Under the age of 35:If you haven't been able to conceive within a year, it's advisable to consult a doctor.
- Over the age of 35:After 6 months of unsuccessful attempts, it is recommended to undergo an examination.
- Partner over the age of 40:If the partner is over 40, it is advisable to consult a specialist immediately.
- Known health issues:If there are any factors that might suggest difficulty in conceiving (e.g., hormonal issues, genetic disorders, previous surgeries), it is advisable to consult a doctor immediately.

Male fertility examinations
Unfortunately, the misconception still exists in society that it is the woman’s “fault” if she cannot conceive. However, in cases of difficulty conceiving and infertility, male factors should be considered in about half of the cases. Thus, the man can also be a contributing factor if a baby is not conceived. According to current protocols in Hungary and internationally, if a couple is having trouble conceiving, it is mandatory to start the entire evaluation process with an examination of the male partner.
What does the examination of male fertility involve?
Once again, men have the "easier" task, as instead of multiple blood draws and uncomfortable tests, they only need to provide a sample once, which can even be considered relatively pleasant.
The specialized biologist examines the ejaculate. An appointment is required for the test, and a period of 3-5 days of abstinence is needed before the scheduled time.
Sample collection
At L33 Medical, you have the option to submit a sample collected from home. We can provide a sterile plastic container for the sample, which is also available at pharmacies. It is important to deliver the sample to the clinic within two hours, keeping it at body temperature (especially crucial during the winter months).
At the clinic, you can submit samples both in the morning and in the afternoon. The results will be sent to the patient via email, but you can also wait on-site, as the examination takes approximately 20 minutes. Additionally, you can request a consultation with the biologist to discuss the results and any questions you may have.
Basic semen analysis (SPG)
The semen analysis evaluates the quantity of sperm, their motility, and their morphology (how they look). These are the three most important parameters, but many other aspects are also examined, such as any deviations that might indicate inflammation.
Additional tests
The basic semen analysis can be complemented with additional tests, which are virtually limitless. Notably, the DNA fragmentation test examines whether the genetic material (DNA) in the sperm is in proper condition. Another commonly tested parameter is the HBA (hyaluronic acid binding assay), which indicates whether the sperm can bind to the egg.
When is it advisable to request additional tests?
In addition to these, numerous other tests are available, but they should only be requested if there are issues with the basic semen analysis. If there has been a previous unsuccessful pregnancy, if the male partner leads an unhealthy lifestyle (e.g., smoking, alcohol consumption, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, high stress), or if he is over 40, it is advisable to perform additional tests. This is practical because everything can be examined from a single sample, so it's worth planning ahead.

Male fertility examinations
In cases of difficulty conceiving or infertility, 40% of the time the issue is with the male partner, 40% with the female partner, and 20% with both partners. Therefore, it is very important that, even before trying to conceive, the male partner undergoes an evaluation.

Hormonal examination
If conception is not occurring, one of the most important steps is hormonal examination. It is crucial that these tests are conducted on the appropriate days of the menstrual cycle and are performed according to the doctor’s instructions. To determine the exact timing, consult with your gynecologist or the clinic’s knowledgeable assistant.
When should the blood test be done?
The timing of the blood test should be determined in relation to the menstrual cycle:
- In the first half of the cycle:From the first day of the cycle, usually between days 2 and 5.
- In the second half of the cycle:From the middle of the cycle to the end, usually between days 19 and 21.
The exact timing may vary depending on the length of your cycles. Therefore, it is important to consult with your doctor to ensure the blood test is done at the appropriate time.
What do we examine?
During hormonal evaluation, we examine the following hormones:
- Female sex hormones
- Male sex hormones
- Prolactin (lactation hormone)
- Thyroid hormones
- Insulin resistance test (if necessary)
The insulin resistance test is not always mandatory and requires an extended evaluation, which involves blood draws three times.

Endocrinology
Endocrinology is a medical specialty that deals with diseases of hormone-producing glands and hormones. Endocrinologists diagnose and treat issues such as thyroid disorders, adrenal gland diseases, growth disorders, osteoporosis, fertility problems, and hormonal imbalances.
Fallopian tube patency test
The fallopian tube patency test is crucial in infertility evaluations. If the fallopian tubes are not patent, sperm cannot meet the eggs, making fertilization impossible. There are three main methods for this test: X-ray, ultrasound, and surgery under anesthesia.
Examination methods
- X-ray examination: HSG or hysterosalpingography. Available in hospitals, it involves minimal radiation exposure.
- Ultrasound examination: HyCoSy. Available in our clinic, it is less painful and does not involve radiation.
- Surgical procedure under anesthesia: It is only recommended if a surgical procedure is already necessary.
The examination consists of two parts
- The examination of the fallopian tubes: If the fallopian tubes are blocked, fertilization is not possible.
- The internal examination of the uterus: A special fluid is first introduced into the uterine cavity, where we assess the internal condition of the uterus. This is crucial for the implantation and development of the embryo.
Preparations and consultation
- Preliminary consultation: It is important to consult with the doctor who will perform the examination before the test.
- Screening tests: They are necessary to rule out infections and prevent pelvic inflammatory disease.
- Timing: It is recommended to perform the examination during the first half of the menstrual cycle. In the case of irregular menstruation, we will assist in planning the test and determining the appropriate time for the examination.
How is the examination conducted?
During the examination, a special fluid is introduced into the uterine cavity, which flows through the fallopian tubes. Using ultrasound, we can track the movement of the fluid and determine whether the fallopian tubes are patent. If the fluid flows freely and exits at the end of the fallopian tubes, patency is confirmed. If the fluid gets blocked, it indicates an obstruction.
Why isn’t everything visible with conventional ultrasound?
Conventional ultrasound may not always reveal the fallopian tubes because they do not contain fluid. Using a special fluid allows for a more accurate image and helps detect smaller abnormalities.

Cycle monitoring and ovulation assessment
Ovulation is essential for conception because it is the union of the egg from the female and the sperm from the male that creates the embryo (which later becomes a fetus). To determine if you are ovulating, we can use several methods. It is important to note that the presence of menstruation alone does not guarantee ovulation.
Natural cycle monitoring methods
Natural cycle monitoring methods are based on observing the body and can be performed at home. For instance, we recommend Janka Cserháti Herold's "Hormonmentes" website, which offers a wealth of useful information. These methods include tracking basal body temperature, observing cervical mucus, and monitoring other personal bodily signs.
LH tests
LH tests help detect the peak of luteinizing hormone, which indicates ovulation. These tests can determine if you are ovulating, allowing you to time intercourse with your partner accordingly.
Medical consultation and examinations
We always recommend consulting with your gynecologist, who can help determine the best timing for conception. The gynecologist can also monitor ovulation through ultrasound and blood tests if natural methods and at-home tests do not provide clear results.
Gradual approach and long-term monitoring
It is important to follow a gradual approach to avoid unnecessary medical interventions. Start with natural methods and at-home tests, and then proceed to medical examinations if needed. Don’t judge based on just one month, as many factors can affect ovulation in a given cycle. To obtain accurate results, you should consider a longer period, spanning several months.
Hormonal examination
If long-term monitoring reveals that you are not ovulating, hormonal evaluation is necessary. This will help identify any hormonal issues or other conditions that may affect ovulation, and we will offer treatment options accordingly.

Egg freezing is an option that may be justified by various life situations. Whether for health reasons or as part of intentional family planning, anyone may choose to preserve their eggs for future use. Below, we provide a detailed overview of when and why you might need egg freezing and how we can assist you in this process.
When might you need egg freezing?
- For health reasons:
- Cancer: If you have cancer and are undergoing treatment that could damage your ovaries and eggs, it's worth considering egg freezing. In such cases, be sure to consult with the doctor who discovered or will treat your condition to preserve your future fertility.
- Intentional family planning:
- Age-related factors: As you age, the quality of your eggs deteriorates. This is especially true after the age of 35, when egg quality significantly declines. If you have not yet found the right partner or are planning for future family planning, it is worth considering egg freezing.
Why is egg freezing important?
- Starting a family at a later age: Due to the decline in egg quality, conceiving becomes more difficult over the age of 37-38, and the risk of genetic abnormalities increases. Egg freezing allows you to use higher quality eggs from a younger age at a later time.
How does egg freezing work?
- Contact: In Hungary, egg freezing is currently only available for medical reasons, but in countries like Slovakia and the Czech Republic, it is also available upon request. We assist with contacting foreign clinics.

A nőgyógyászati vizsgálat a szeméremtest, a hüvely, a méh, illetve a petefészkek vizsgálatából, valamint a méhnyak szűrésből (citológia) áll. A páciens kérésére a szakorvos elvégzi az emlők fizikális vizsgálatát is, melynek során áttapintja az emlőket, valamint a hónaljban található nyirokcsomókat.
Beszélgetés
Az orvos rákérdez az esetleges panaszokra, az utolsó menstruáció időpontjára. Átbeszélitek a menstruációd jellemzőit, fogamzásgátlás módját, és minden más nőgyógyászati kérdést, ami téged foglalkoztat.
Bimanuális (kétkezes) vizsgálat
közel sem olyan ijesztő, mint ahogy hangzik ? Az orvos először szemügyre veszi, majd áttapintja a külső és belső nemiszerveket. Ez a vizsgálat normális esetben egyáltalán nem fájdalmas. Ha fájdalmat érzel: azonnal jelezd az orvosodnak, hisz az betegségre is felhívhatja a figyelmet!
Feltárásos vizsgálat
egy „kacsának” nevezett eszközzel bekukucskál a hüvelyedbe, hogy a méhszájadat, hüvelyboltozatot és hüvelyfalat is megvizsgálhassa. Természetesen mindenkinek megfelelő méretűt használunk: XS-től L-ig. (igen, mint a ruháknál).
Kenetvétel
az orvos leveszi a rákszűréshez, tenyésztéshez szükséges váladékot egy fültisztító vattapálcikára, vagy szempillaspirálra emlékeztető eszközzel. Ne aggódj, ez egyáltalán nem fáj!
Ultrahangvizsgálat
egy kb. két ujjnyi vastag, teljesen csúszós hüvelyi eszközzel történik. Ez sem fájdalmas, esetleg picit furcsa érzés, de ha mégis bármikor fájdalmat, kellemetlenséget érzel, azonnal jelezd az orvosnak! Az ultrahang képét Te is láthatod real time az előtted lévő TV képernyőjén, amin az orvos magyarázni is tud, ha lát valami említésre méltót. (pl: kisbaba, ciszta, mióma, stb).

a vizsgálat után az orvos elmondja, mit talált Nálad, milyen fontos tudnivalók vannak testedet, állapotodat illetően. Az is lehet, hogy semmi, hisz makk egészséges vagy, és csak az éves szűrésre érkeztél:)
