Naturally, as if you came with a sore throat!

Proctology

Budaörs Corvin Pasarét

Nowadays, it's more or less natural that if we feel something isn't working right, we visit the doctor's office—except when it comes to the rectum, in which case we tend to bury our heads in the sand. We'd rather not acknowledge the problem. It doesn't even hurt that much, so it probably isn't hemorrhoids. It just bled a little, maybe it's just something minor...

Sounds familiar? Then we'd like to reassure you: the rectum is just another organ, and for a proctologist, rectal issues are just as natural as visiting your general practitioner for a sore throat. After all, they specifically deal with rectal disorders.

No problem is too embarrassing, but you can harm yourself greatly if you seek help too late. For your rectal issues, visit us; our well-trained doctors do everything they can to create a calm, stress-free environment in the clinic and to alleviate your symptoms with the least possible discomfort.

What problem can we assist you with?

Hemorrhoids

Bleeding, pain, and itching in the most uncomfortable area—if these issues, which affect one in five adults, are familiar to you, it’s time to take action..

...our clinic offers a gentle and lasting solution with laser surgery to help you get rid of your symptoms.

If hemorrhoids are suspected, an examination is essential to determine the stage and severity of the condition. It might seem frightening to you because of the bleeding, but it’s possible that only a minor, harmless issue is behind it, requiring neither surgery nor laser treatment, just a special suppository. It's important to treat hemorrhoids according to their stage and your condition.

Laser treatment for hemorrhoids

Laser treatment for hemorrhoids is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a specialized laser to eliminate hemorrhoidal lumps. The laser light precisely targets and closes off the hemorrhoidal vessels, thereby alleviating uncomfortable symptoms and promoting rapid healing. The procedure is highly precise and involves minimal discomfort.

Benefits of the procedure:

  • Quick and effective: The laser treatment for hemorrhoids can be performed in a short time and delivers immediate results.
  • Quick recovery: After the laser treatment, patients can quickly return to their daily activities.
  • Less complications: During the procedure, the risk of bleeding is minimal, and the risk of infection is also lower.

How is the treatment done?

  1. Consultation: The first step is a thorough medical consultation, during which our specialist assesses the severity of the hemorrhoids and determines if laser treatment is appropriate for you.
  2. Preparation: If you decide, the laser treatment can be performed immediately after the examination. However, it is also possible to schedule the procedure for a separate appointment.
  3. The laser treatment: Laser hemorrhoid surgery begins with complete anesthesia of the affected area. Using an operational laser and accompanied by a safety ligation, we essentially vaporize the dilated veins (i.e., the hemorrhoids). The entire procedure usually takes no more than 15 minutes.
  4. Postoperative care: After the procedure, we will discuss the care instructions for the post-surgery period. Unless you are engaged in heavy physical labor, you can typically resume your usual work 1-2 days after the surgery. For more strenuous activities and sports, it is generally recommended to wait about 2 weeks. You may experience some pain during the first 4-5 days, which responds well to pain relief medications and suppositories.

Who is laser treatment recommended for?

Laser treatment for hemorrhoids is an ideal solution for those seeking a fast, effective, and less painful method to relieve their hemorrhoidal symptoms. It is especially recommended for individuals for whom traditional treatments (ointments, suppositories) have not provided the desired results.

Anal fissure

An anal fissure is a very uncomfortable, painful condition that often involves bleeding. A layperson may find it difficult to distinguish it from hemorrhoids, as the symptoms are similar. An anal fissure is a small tear in the mucous membrane, which can develop from hard stools, constipation, or even diarrhea, or from something that may have scratched the mucous membrane at the end of the rectum.

Why should you turn to us?

Just like with hemorrhoids, people are often reluctant to see a doctor about an anal fissure. However, it’s crucial to address it because a fissure is a wound that can heal on its own but may do so slowly. It's important for the patient to understand the nature of their problem. A proctologist can prescribe special creams, as over-the-counter medications might not be suitable, as they are primarily intended for hemorrhoids. If left untreated, the fissure can become chronic or worsen, and it can easily reopen with another difficult bowel movement. It can frequently recur and cause symptoms that may lead to more serious issues later on. The fissure can extend inward, potentially developing into a fistula, abscess, or other more severe conditions.

Fistula-abscess

What is a fistula?

A fistula (also known by its Latin name, fistula) is an abnormal opening in the body, through which fluid can pass. It can form between two body cavities, between a body cavity and the skin, or between a body cavity and a neighboring organ. Its formation is typically caused by some form of tissue damage (either direct or accidental) or inflammation. Fistulas can be either acute or chronic, and the severity of symptoms can vary greatly.
The fluid that can pass through fistulas may include feces, urine, pus, saliva, or blood. Continuous discharge is typical, which increases the risk of infection in certain areas. Thus, it is evident that a fistula can be not only very uncomfortable but also potentially dangerous, and it should be treated as soon as possible.

Why do fistulas form?

The formation of a fistula can have several causes, with injury or damage being the underlying factor in most cases.

Fistulas most commonly result from the following processes:

  • Tissue damage caused by inflammation;
  • Trauma, which may include accidents, surgical scars, burns, or areas treated with radiation;
  • Certain types of cancer, such as those affecting the skin, bladder, or colon;
  • Chronic diseases, such as Crohn's disease or certain autoimmune disorders;
  • Healthy lifestyle factors: harmful habits, unhealthy diet, lack of physical activity.

If the situation is not severe, antibiotic treatment may be sufficient to resolve the fistula. However, surgery might also be necessary. The type of fistula surgery varies depending on its location and severity. If the fistula is close to the surface, it can sometimes be removed using a laser as an outpatient procedure. However, if it is deeper, surgery under general anesthesia will be performed, followed by hospital observation.

What is an abscess?

A perianal abscess and a fistula are essentially two forms of the same condition. The abscess represents the early stage of the disease, while the fistula is the chronic, long-standing, and recurring form. Infection of the glandular ducts that lead to the line between the two layers of the rectal canal can cause inflammation and abscess formation. This inflammation can then spread towards the surrounding tissues or the skin near the external sphincter.

What causes it?

In most cases, the formation of a fistula cannot be attributed to specific causes, and it is somewhat more common in men. Factors such as obesity and inadequate hygiene can contribute to its development. In some cases, underlying conditions such as autoimmune diseases or inflammatory bowel diseases may be involved. Therefore, in cases of recurrent symptoms, a gastroenterological evaluation may be important.

What are the symptoms?

Superficial abscesses are often painful early on, causing a tender, swollen area under the skin around the anus, which may sometimes open spontaneously and discharge foul-smelling pus. This can be accompanied by fever and chills. There are also deeper abscesses, where diagnosis can be more challenging and symptoms may not develop as quickly or as intensely.

How can it be treated?

Spontaneous healing of abscesses is rare. The treatment of abscesses typically involves broad surgical incision, which can be performed under local anesthesia in less complicated cases or under spinal anesthesia or general anesthesia in a hospital setting. After the incision, the abscess is thoroughly cleaned, and if a fistula tract is present, it is treated according to the specific findings. These wounds are generally left open and require regular care, usually being flushed and dressed once or several times a day.

Perianal warts

These warts can develop not only around the anus but also at the vaginal opening or in the perineum, practically anywhere in the genital area. However, they are also commonly found around the anus. They are usually caused by low-risk strains of the HPV virus. In most cases, they do not become cancerous, but they are quite uncomfortable in appearance, so their removal is definitely recommended.

Removal of warts

There are several options for removing warts. In the past, they were treated by freezing or with various topical solutions, but these methods only provide temporary relief. A modern solution for wart removal is laser treatment, where, after a small pain-relieving injection, we painlessly vaporize the warts.

It's important to know that if you have genital warts, the virus is already present in your body in multiple cells, but we can only remove the visible warts. Since the virus remains in the body, it can cause new warts over time—especially if the immune system is weakened for some reason. This makes it easier for the virus to reactivate. Therefore, it's advisable to get rid of it as soon as possible, even if it’s in a place you’re reluctant to show to anyone. However, we want to reassure you: the rectum is just another organ, and for a proctologist, rectal issues are as natural as visiting your general practitioner for a sore throat.

Hemorrhoids during pregnancy

Pregnancy-related hemorrhoids are a common issue among expectant mothers. Hemorrhoids involve the swelling and inflammation of the blood vessels around the anus, which can cause pain, itching, and bleeding.

How does pregnancy-related hemorrhoids develop?

During pregnancy, several factors can contribute to the development of hemorrhoids:

  1. Increased pressure: As the uterus grows, it exerts increasing pressure on the pelvic area and the blood vessels around the anus.
  2. Hormonal changes: The increase in progesterone levels can cause the relaxation of blood vessel walls, making them more prone to dilation.
  3. Constipation: Constipation is common during pregnancy and can lead to straining during bowel movements, increasing the risk of developing hemorrhoids.
  4. Increased blood volume: During pregnancy, the volume of blood increases, which also puts greater pressure on the blood vessels.

What symptoms should you pay attention to?

  • Itching and irritation around the anus
  • Pain, especially during bowel movements
  • Bleeding in the stool or on the toilet paper
  • Protruding lumps around the anus

Managing and preventing pregnancy-related hemorrhoids is important for expectant mothers to ensure a more comfortable and healthy pregnancy. Proctology, where you can come without fear

There have always been, are, and will be people who only see a doctor when the problem becomes severe. However, for most people, it is more or less natural to visit the clinic if they feel that something isn't working properly.

Except when it comes to the rectum; in that case, we tend to bury our heads in the sand.

We'd rather ignore the problem. It doesn't hurt that much, so it probably isn’t hemorrhoids. It only bled a little; it might be something minor. We come up with all kinds of excuses, just to avoid visiting a proctologist.

You’re probably also concerned with similar questions

What issues does a proctologist deal with?

Dear patients! The rectum is just another organ, and for a proctologist, rectal issues are as natural as visiting your general practitioner for a sore throat. Don’t feel embarrassed or uncomfortable; this situation is not new to us at all—we have seen many similar cases!

A proctologist deals with the following issues:

  • hemorrhoids
  • inflammatory processes of the rectum
  • rectal tumors
  • anal fissures
  • anal fistulas
  • rectal polyps

Among the listed issues, some are relatively easy to treat, while others are more serious. Since, as a layperson, you cannot be certain of the exact issue based on symptoms alone, a medical examination is definitely recommended!

What symptoms should prompt a visit to a proctologist?

  • discharge
  • bloody stool
  • itching around the anus
  • pain in the rectum
  • sensation of a foreign body or any discomfort in the rectum
  • changes around the anus
  • persistent diarrhea

Each of these symptoms can be caused by various issues, so it is impossible to determine the exact problem based on symptoms alone. It could be something minor, but it could also be a serious condition that definitely requires medical attention.

Remember, symptoms won’t go away just because you don’t want to acknowledge them!

The longer you wait, the worse your condition will become, and the longer your recovery will take.

If you regularly experience any of the above problems, be sure to schedule an appointment with our proctology clinic so we can find a solution as soon as possible!
